Discord Name (ie: Name#1234):
Round ID of Ban: 16787

Ban Message (Gyazo/imgur or copy and paste): Core 2.) Malicious acts - As an assistant, “assisted” security by firebombing a bartender that they were attempting to arrest. This did far more damage to the bartender than should have been. If you want to play sec, play sec, but even then this wouldn’t be acceptable.
State your appeal:

I’d like to set the record straight here, because this sets me out to be someone who intentionally tries to grief other players. This is not true, if the staff member who issued this ban had continued to ask about the situation it would have been clear that this was the result of an accident caused by my own admitted misunderstanding of the escalation clause. Let me make it clear that I am brand new to Space Station 13, I’ve had a handful of rounds on Goonstation and considering that I’ve never been boinked for anything even close to this, I thought the next step to elevating my RP experience would be Fulpstation. For a beginner, this has been frustrating as there seems to be little for me to do, nobody to really talk to as everyone is busy with their own thing, and an absurd amount of content, rules, laws, by-laws etc. for me to try and unravel. Lost in all of this, I’ve decided to just roleplay how I think a person in a given situation might act.

What this reasoning fails to mention is that not only was this person was engaged in a prolonged shootout with multiple people in the crossfire, and that Sec was outnumbered and going to lose the engagement if nothing was done. This could have easily resulted in both the officer’s and my own death since the station was on Red Alert and if we were left there restrained or incapacitated we would have be delimbed by the Robust saber nukie rampaging the halls. There were two shooters behind the bar the bartender and his metabuddy, and the Security officer and I were across the room from them hiding under the tables as lasers soared through the air in both directions.

Out of panic and desperation, I primed and threw a makeshift firebomb I’d found in maintenance behind the bar in an attempt to get them to run out from behind cover and into the waiting arms of Security. Unfortunately for me, and for the bartender in question, the security officer still continued to fire and disabled the bartender as he walked over to pick up the firebomb (most likely to toss it back at us) and left him there as the timer ticked down. I attempted to go back behind the bar to move him, as I knew this was surely going to get me boinked but the officer was eager to make the arrest assumedly having not seen the primed firebomb directly beneath the suspect.

He ran up to the Bartender, noticed the firebomb, and then ran away leaving the firebomb next to him. After the bomb exploded, the officer said “I was going to cuff you but I have nothing to cuff,” laughed heartily, then left the guy to bleed out. I was going to help the guy get to medical on account of my mistake, however he did in fact have the gall to repeatedly chant that everyone in that room besides him was ‘retarded’ so I let him know that he “had it coming to him for shooting at sec during red alert” and left him there as well.

I’ll definitely admit that this was a case of over-escalation, though I had no intention to grief another player, remove their limbs, or even hurt them. I tossed said firebomb at the very end of the bar as far from the door as I could. Mind you, this was a random item that I had found in maintenance, and I’m new here. I did not know that this makeshift bomb would even have the ability to remove limbs, the description damn-near made it out to be novelty item. I thought that the absurdly long timer would be long enough for them to be able to run away from it, and it would have been if the officer had either tossed the bomb or dragged the suspect away.

Since this event, I have done another read of your rules and I fully comprehend my mistake. I now know the potential lethality of this item, and will refrain from using it in the future as a non-antagonist. I also understand that you likely would have expected me to FearRP the situation, or left the area instead of intervening. I just want everyone to understand that I am not the griefer this ban makes me out to be, I’m just new and I have a vested interest in self-preservation because my rounds on here have consisted of 10m of exploring followed by random, violent, unexplained death. Which I’ve since been told by the server is just what happens, and it’s how you learn. I don’t expect an actual appeal here, I just want staff to understand situation. I’ll see you guys in a couple days.

EDIT: Last thing I want to mention, I did not do this without direction from Security. During the firefight the officer yelled out to me to assist him in the arrest. The only weapon I had on me was this firebomb, and I was not about to run through an obvious chokepoint to get shot by in the face by high-energy photons trying to melee these guys. If I had known that this soda-can bomb could knock off limbs, I would have thought twice before throwing it at all.

You don’t actually need my Discord profile for this do you?

They don’t need your discord profile. It just takes some time for ban appeals to happen

I was just making sure I didn’t have to talk to anyone on Discord. I am proudly socially inept.

Generally speaking, you shouldn’t have weapons (makeshift or otherwise) as a non-sec officer unless there is a delta-level threat. Although it’s okay to help when sec is getting beaten, an explosive that would endanger additional crew members is way over what is acceptable especially considering antags aren’t even allowed to use explosives that would kill non-targets. I understand that if you’re used to non-RP servers that this would be a lot to adapt to, but this wasn’t the first time you were talked to about killing people without sufficient IC reason as a non-antag, so the ban is staying.

For future reference, the general rule of thumb for engagements on Fulp is that there are only a few circumstances where lethal force is allowed, and even fewer where explosives of any sort are allowed for non-antags.
